Computerized Balance System
Computerized Balance System for Effective Rehabilitation of Balance Disorders
Balance disorders are a common problem among physical therapy and rehabilitation patients. These disorders can cause falls and injuries, and hinder patients’ daily activities. To address these issues, advanced computerized balance systems have been developed, which have various features to regulate balance problems, increase muscle tone, and prevent falls. In this article, we’ll explore the features of computerized balance systems and how they can be used in balance disorder rehabilitation.
Assessing the Risk of Falling
One of the most important features of computerized balance systems is the ability to evaluate the risk of falling in our patients. The system detects which system of the body is causing the balance problem and creates a physical therapy plan based on the needs of the patient. Virtual games are included in the system to increase patients’ ability to move and develop their balance and coordination. Our Patients can also increase their motivation by aiming to increase their scores in the games.
Evaluation and Diagnosis
To diagnose balance disorders, the patient’s clinical history is taken first. Afterward, balance organs in the ear are tested with certain maneuvers along with eye movement examinations to detect dizziness causes. After a general neurological examination, the evaluation of balance is performed in fixed and mobile ways. Fixed balance tests are done while standing still and can be measured more easily. Various examination methods and standardized clinical tests are available in our center for balance assessment. Computer-assisted measurement tools, such as posturography, increase the sensitivity and objectivity of dynamic balance assessment. Posture, speed of movement, acceleration, reactionary and compensatory responses can be determined, which allows for a more precise evaluation compared to clinical examination in mild diseases.
Treatment
Once a correct diagnosis is made with the help of tests, the treatment and rehabilitation process begins. Treatment applications such as personalized strengthening exercises, electrostimulation, computer-assisted balance training, Virtual Reality, and Robotic Walking are performed to improve balance. Exercises that include certain eye and head maneuvers can be applied to reduce dizziness. These systems can assess the risk of falling, evaluate and diagnose balance disorders more precisely, and provide targeted treatments in our center. With interactive games and personalized exercise plans, our patients can also increase their motivation during the rehabilitation process.
